This year is the first year that I participated in lent. If you don’t know what that is, lent is a Christian practice where people give up a particular food or habit to make more room for prayer and time with God. I decided to give up Netflix, Hulu, or watching TV of any kind. I don’t know about you but I constantly tell myself I want to give up the distractions that keep me from spending time with God. I thought TV and Netflix was one of my biggest distractions but when I gave that up I noticed how many distractions I truly have in my life. If I’m not at work then I’m writing for my blog or trying to think of what photo I’m going to post next on Instagram. I find myself using all my free time for friends, hobbies or work and before I know it my day has escaped me and I haven’t spent any time with God. Our lives are full of distractions.

We all have busy lives. If it’s not a full time job, then maybe you are a full time student. Focused on how much you are working out, or maybe just spending time with friends or loved ones. It’s easy to fill up our time and leave no room for God and I want to ask a tough question that I had to ask myself. When was the last time you spent some one on one quality time with Him?

I was listening to a podcast and what I heard really stood out. Sometimes noise can be visual or physical. It made me realize how much I let distractions create noise in my life. I stopped watching TV and yet I still wasn’t spending time with God.

I challenge you to put down your phone, stop endlessly scrolling through Instagram or any social media for no reason. Give up watching an episode of your favorite show or two; stay home one night instead of constantly going out with friends. Choose into spending time with God.
